The Entrepreneurial Way (TEW) was conceived by Ratheesan Yoganathan, Chairman of Lebara Group. The programme is organised by UKTSU with the support of Ratheesan Yoganathan and LBR Investments Ltd.
The initiative ran for the first time over the 2012/2013 student academic year. The TEW team reached out to students at the university Freshers Fairs and Tamil Society Meet and Greets between September and October 2012 to give them the opportunity to find out about TEW and meet successful entrepreneurs such as Ratheesan Yoganathan of Lebara, so that those with great ideas could take the entrepreneurial route to realise their business potential.

“I am keen to inspire future generations of students and graduates by giving them the opportunity to find out more about business and the rich experience that a career in business can provide. I also want to encourage and develop business ideas and give young people the chance to begin their entrepreneurial journey by setting up a business through the provision of support, grants and funds. If you’ve got a great idea, then I may invest in it. So what are you waiting for? Dream it. Achieve it.”

Ratheesan Yoganathan

Co-founder and Chairman of Lebara Group

Ratheesan began by introducing the concept of The Entrepreneurial Way (TEW), committing to invest a seed fund of £5 million between now and 2020. He highlighted that he is keen to inspire future generations of young Tamil people, both students and recent graduates, by giving them the opportunity to find out more about business and the rich experience that a career in business can provide. Ratheesan set out ambitious targets for the programme, namely that it’s his hope that the £5 million, through its various projects, will generate revenue of £100 million by 2020. In addition, he laid down a challenge that in the next 25 years, he’d like to see the Sri Lankan Tamil community contributing 1% to the UK’s GDP.

UKTSU (UK Tamil Students’ Union), a charity organisation, run by students for students, has teamed up the co-owner and chairman of Lebara Group, Ratheesan Yoganathan, to present an innovative business scheme, aimed at developing and nurturing Tamil entrepreneurs who are aspiring to build their own businesses – “The Entrepreneurial Way”
