On 11th March 2017, UKTSU organised Nalamthaana; a health project aimed at educating the Tamil community on important health topics.
This year’s Nalamthaana focused on “Stress & Hypertension” and the affects it has on the following five key areas of someone’s health: Cardiology, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Dentistry and Diabetes.
Educating on the effects of stress and hypertension is essential but this topic is not widely explored within our community despite being an issue faced by many Tamil people.
Nalamthaana was held at North Primary school, Southall and received an overwhelmingly positive response from many members of the local Tamil community,
A large team of healthcare students and qualified health professionals including Cardiologists, GP’s, dentists, social workers, optometrists and cardiac physiologists all came together on the day. They provided talks, medical advice and health checks including BMI, BP measurements and eye checks. This was followed by a Q&A session, benefiting many people as a variety of interesting questions were answered by our professionals.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers and professionals who gave their time back to the community and made the event a success.
